Apple Crisp | Gluten Free | Dairy Free | Grain Free | Nut Free

Updated: Dec 8, 2021

I just love this time of the year, the flavors of fall! I made a healthier version of an old fall favorite, apple crisp. Its naturally sweetened with coconut sugar!

Its great for people who are on a strict diet, or can't have certain foods. Its gluten free, dairy free, grain free, and nut free.

This dessert will be great for family gatherings or for the holidays!

Apple Crisp

Gluten Free - Dairy Free - Nut Free - Grain free

Ready in 40 minutes

Serves 8 people

Ingredients

Topping for Crisp:

1 ½ cup cassava flour

½ cup coconut sugar

½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

2 tbsp coconut “butter” flavor oil

2 eggs

Filling:

4 cups fresh honey crisp apples or gala

1 cup coconut sugar

1 1/2 tbsp arrowroot powder

2 tbsp coconut oil butter flavor

2 tsp ground cinnamon

Preparation

Preheat oven 350F

Grease a 8” x 8” baking dish

Plus, a parchment lined baking sheet pan

Crisp Topping:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cassava flour, coconut sugar, and the cinnamon. Mix until combined.

  2. Blend in the coconut butter and the eggs. Mix until it looks like sand.

  3. Evenly sprinkle the topping on the parchment baking sheet pan.

  4. Bake the topping for 15-20 minutes.

  5. After it cools down, sprinkle the topping on top of the apple filling. Until the filling is completely covered.

Apple filling:

  1. Peel and core your apples. Then dice your apples in ½” - 1" cubes or wedges. (it's your preference)

  2. Place the apples in a skillet and add the rest of the dry ingredients. Toss the apples until coated. Then add the coconut “butter” flavor oil.

  3. Cook the apples on medium heat until it thickens and the apples are slightly tender. Set aside.

  4. Pour the apple filling in the baking pan. Then top the filling with the crisp topping.

Bake the crisp for 20-30 minutes. Enjoy it with some ice cream!

Tip:

I highly recommend baking the crisp topping separately at first, rather than directly putting it first on your apple filling because it won’t get very crispy otherwise.
