Trying the Keto Diet! & the Benefits

I wanted to loose about 15 to 20 pounds of weight. So my husband and I started in looking in to Keto. What is it and how does it help loose weight?

Well, Keto is when you stop eating carbs and sugars. Or only eat 25 grams a day! I know not very much, right? But what you are doing is training the body to run on ketones.

What are ketones?

Ketones are chemicals that your liver produces when you don't have enough insulin in your body to turn sugars in to energy. So your body needs another source to get energy so it turns to fats. Your liver then turns fats in to ketones.

So therefore, your are training your body to rely on fats instead of sugars and carbs for a source of energy. That's why if you stick to 25 grams a day of carbs/sugars you won't get the insulin spike and the body then turns to your fat. Which concludes you loosing weight.

This whole training process takes about 40 days to be completely and fully in ketosis. I know that sounds like a lot of days but you are training the body to rely on fats for the source of energy instead of sugar. Which puts less strain on your pancreas to produce insulin all the time.

I heard this helps people to reverse type 2 diabetes. And it actually has proven to do so!

So I tried it out for myself to loose weight and I actually lost 15 pounds without exercising!

I was amazed how satisfying this actually was! I mean I could eat all the high fat meats and cheeses I want and I could still loose weight?!

I thought for sure I would have huge carb cravings and I would end up quitting sooner than later. But actually, NO! I was pretty satisfied with all the options I was eating.

Here are some meals I would eat on a normal basis:

* Omelettes with bacon/sausage, veggies, and cheese

* Meat and veggie Stir fries

* Taco salads (no beans or rice)

* Chef salads (no croutons or high sugar ranch dressing)

* Creamy base soups with bacon and meat in it

* I made cauliflower pasta noodles (recipe coming soon)

and make a Alfredo sauce with grilled chicken

* Different types of high fat and meaty salads

* Grilled Salmon with roasted veggies

* For snacks I would eat cheese sticks with salami

and much more!!

The down side of trying keto diet is the first 1 week or so. If you really follow the diet to a T. You will feel the negative side affects of training the body to rely on ketones. For example, you can feel really weak, sluggish, tired, headaches, or upset stomach. They call this the keto flu. But this only last for a little while. Don't quit! Your body is just adjusting.

There is no cheat days. This is all or nothing. If you cheat you will throw yourself out of ketosis and will have to start over again. Not worth it. Just keep telling yourself it will be worth it! And trust me it does work!

Give a try and see your results! I was pleasantly surprise how much it made me feel!! My hormones also balanced themselves out. My cramps every month weren't so bad or sometimes not even there anymore. Those horrible fat and cravings I would get every month actually went away! If you have a horrible menstrual cycles and want to level out your hormones? Try this diet out! It actually does help a lot!!
